CHINA EARTHQUAKE
DONATIONS RAISED TO DATE: RM 221, 662 (as of May 30)
- More than 45.6 million people are reported to have been affected and 5.2 million made homeless. Around 68,858 confirmed dead; a further 18, 618 missing; 366, 586 injured
- World Vision has concentrated its efforts on distributions to families, especially quilts and tarpaulins to provide displaced children with warmth and shelter. Around 20,000 quilts and 4,000 tarpaulins have been distributed, as well as nearly 500,000 kg of rice.
- While relief distributions continue, World Vision is also providing rehabilitation equipment and support including school supplies, agricultural tools and child-friendly spaces.
- Strong aftershocks continue to pose a threat to survivors and World Vision’s relief work. Coupled with the arrival of the rainy season, fears of landslides and flooding mount
- To better equip children to cope with the on-going stress of aftershocks, World Vision has been running disaster preparedness activities in open areas. These activities help children understand how to identify risks and how they can better protect themselves during earthquakes, flooding and other such natural disasters.
- World Vision’s long-term rehabilitation programme includes 40 schools, 10 dormitories, 10 clinics, 4,000 houses.
- With international support, World Vision China hopes to work with affected communities for up to three years, rebuilding schools, clinics and homes. The relief and rehabilitation efforts are expected to cost around US $27 million and help over 350,000 earthquake survivors to have a new beginning.
- Current projected funds raised: US$23 million
- During the relief phase of response, World Vision donated USD1.83 million in emergency supplies to Guangyang city in Sichuan.
- Dr Thomas Chan of World Vision China will sign an official Memorandum of Understanding with the Guangyang city government which sees World Vision donating USD15million towards the city’s rehabilitation and recovery process

Dear World Vision,
I am not sure where to send this to,so i am trully sorry if this is not the appropriate place to send to. I have written this for the people in Myanmar and China,in hope to encourage them to have faith in these sad and depressing times.
“The world is in pain
As disaster after disaster
Descend upon us
The world is crying
As the tears that flowed
Speaks a thousand words
Each with a sad story behind
The world is mourning
As its people are desperately
Wishing for miracles
The world has lost its shine
As grieve and sorrow took its place
But people of the world
Do not ever, ever lose faith
Believe and trust
We will see its glory days once again
May God be with us”
I hope this will give them to continue to have hope and faith in their journey of life after this.
Thank you once again for reading this. God Bless:)
